Educational Needs

  • The activity is designed to offer an interactive forum for the exchange of clinical information pertaining to new and established energy-based technology.
  • This activity will explore the collaborative roles of Nursing/Allied Health personnel in providing optimum patient care utilizing evidence based standards of practice.
  • This activity will explain the safety regulations and controls for the use of lasers and energy based devices in a variety of clinical settings.

Participants The activity is designed for nurses, clinicians, and other allied health professionals who use laser, light and other energy-based technologies.

Background Requirements Attendees should possess a basic understanding of laser, light and energy-based technologies for cutaneous applications.

Instructional Content/Expected Learning Objectives After this session, attendees should:

  • Establish a sound understanding of the principles of lasers and other energy based devices.
  • Learn the role of the Laser Safety Officer (LSO) and how to achieve safety compliance in the workplace.
  • Understand the national and state regulations and non-governmental controls that can influence one's clinical practice.
  • Discover the latest technological application of lasers energy based devices in the surgical and aesthetic fields.
  • Gain an understanding of the biophysical mechanisms surrounding the use of low light therapy.
