Focusing on the future of ASLMS

ASLMS continues to support future leaders in the field with programming and activities designed specifically for early career individuals. Free conference access and a 50% discount* on pre-conference courses is available to undergrad students, medical students, nursing/allied health students, residents, interns, fellows-in-training, graduate students, and post-doctoral fellows.

Additionally, a limited number of travel grants up to $1,000 are available each year to defray the travel and lodging costs for those whose abstracts are accepted for oral presentation.

*Does not include breakfast and luncheon sessions.

 


Early Career Abstracts

This session is a forum for discussion of various topics from both clinical and scientific perspectives including laser medicine, stimulating interest in key concepts, as well as novel applications. This is a wonderful opportunity for residents, fellows and early career scientists to present their data to an assembly of their peers. Accepted abstracts are published in the Lasers in Surgery and Medicine journal and travel grants will be available for qualified abstract presenters.

Clinical Career Pearls

Clinical experts in laser medicine will share treatment pearls with the assembled trainees, and faculty will also be available to take questions at length.


Fundamentals of Lasers in Health Care

New to lasers and energy-based devices? Start with this full day fundamentals course which provides a comprehensive introduction to the science and practice of lasers and energy-based devices in health care.


Outstanding Early Career Abstract Awards

We offer best awards for each abstract category and outstanding abstract awards for the Early Career session. In addition, Early Career Abstract Award recipients will have the opportunity to present in the corresponding main session.

  • Abstracts are nominated by Early Career Session Section Chair(s).
  • Winners are referred for presentation within the corresponding main session (Cutaneous or Basic Science sessions).
  • Winners receive a $150 honoraria and an award plaque.

There are also opportunities to be selected as the recipient of an award in the Best Overall Abstract Awards and Best of Session Awards categories.

Early Career Reception

This special reception offers our students and early career attendees the opportunity to network and build professional relationships with colleagues. The reception is open to all students, residents, fellows-in-training, PhD candidates, and scientists and physicians 10 years or less post-graduation. Attendees can enjoy complimentary hors d’oeuvres, bar/beverages and share excellent conversation with peers.

The American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery is the world’s largest scientific organization dedicated to promoting research, education and high standards of clinical care in the field of medical laser applications. It provides a forum for the exchange of scientific information and participation in communicating the latest developments in laser medicine and surgery to clinicians, research investigators, government and regulatory agencies, and the public.
