Abstract Presenting Author Educational Scholarship

Educational Scholarships are available for select students and medical/research trainees who submit an abstract and are accepted as the presenting author for oral presentation at the Annual Conference. See requirements below.

Abstract Presenting Author Scholarship 

DUE BY NOVEMBER 6, 2023

 

CRITERIA

  • Available Funds: Up to $1,250 (USD) for qualifying applicants. A limited number will be available and will be offered based on abstract review and ranking by the Section Chairs. One scholarship, the Peggy Nowell, RN scholarship, is designated specifically to a Nursing/Allied Health submission. 
  • Eligibility: Available to ASLMS members who represent at least one status from the list below and are within a maximum of 7 years from start-date of post-doctorate training:
    • Undergraduate Student
    • Physician Students (Medical Student, Intern, Enrolled in a current residency program, Fellow-in-Training doing patient-oriented research)
    • Early Career Scientist Students (Graduate student or post-doctoral trainee currently involved full-time in biomedical laser research)
    • Nursing/Allied Health Students
  • Required Items: While applicants may submit multiple abstracts, selected recipients are limited to one scholarship. A complete application will include:
    • Applicant must have current ASLMS membership, or in applicant status
    • Abstract must be submitted for consideration, and be selected to be presented at the upcoming Annual Conference
    • Abstract Presenting Author Scholarship application form completion
    • Letter from a direct supervisor that verifies status and eligibility
  • Deadline: Membership, abstracts, applications, and verification letters must be submitted by the abstract deadline
  • Recipient Selection: Abstracts will be reviewed based on quality criteria and ranked by a designated sub-committee.  Accepted abstracts are required to be presented orally and will be placed within one of the abstract sessions. 
    • Presenting Author Scholarship recipients are encouraged to submit a manuscript of their research activities to the Editorial Office of Lasers in Surgery and Medicine, to be considered for publication, following the Annual Conference.
  • Notification: Applicants will be notified via email of their abstract and scholarship status in December, preceding the conference.
No scholarship will be awarded to any person if the award would be contrary to any United States law including, but not limited to, trade embargoes administered by the U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control.
