ABSTRACTS: Basic Science and Translational Research
Date | Time: April 11, 12 and 13, 2024 | See Program-at-a-Glance for details
Section Chairs: Imran Rizvi, PhD; Emily Wenande, MD, PhD
The abstract sessions are where authors first present their cutting-edge research in the field of lasers and energy-based devices. Learn the latest developments and newest devices on the market.
Transdermal Drug Delivery with Lasers and Energy-Based Devices
Date | Time: April 11, 2024 | 7:00 AM – 7:45 AM
Course Director: Merete Haedersdal, MD, PhD, DMSc
Energy-based devices are used to increase transepidermal and transdermal delivery of molecules large and small. While device-assisted drug delivery is generally off-label, healthcare providers can and do provide these treatments in their capacity of practice of medicine. This session will review data and open questions regarding outcomes with device-assisted drug-based therapy.
Best of LSM
Date | Time: April 12, 2024 | 7:00 AM- 7:45 AM
Course Directors: Jessica G. Labadie, MD; Brian J F Wong, MD, PhD, FACS
Lasers in Surgery and Medicine is the official journal of ASLMS. The content reflects the breadth of applications across specialties and includes both basic science and clinical reports. This session will highlight published works that are impactful, unique, and otherwise valuable for laser-based clinicians.
How Does It Work? Inside the Machines
Date | Time: April 12, 2024 | 7:00 AM- 7:45 AM
Course Directors: Shlomit Halachmi, MD, PhD; Gregory Altshuler, PhD
Clinicians are trained in clinical use and outcomes, but much of the knowledge is based on experience, recommended settings, and trial and error. This session will delve into how the device generates energy, how the energy is regulated for dosing considerations, and how the technically-savvy clinician can apply this knowledge to optimizing outcomes. The technologies featured include not only light-based technologies but energy-based devices based on electrical currents, ultrasound, and magnetic field generation.
Fundamentals and Applications of Photobiomodulation (LLLT)
Date | Time: Friday, April 12, 2024 | 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM
Course Directors: Juanita J. Anders, PhD; Joshua Tam, PhD
Think Tank: Beyond the Shark Tank
