  • Nearly 80% of submitted abstracts will be selected for presentation.
  • Accepted abstracts are published in a special, online-only edition of Lasers in Surgery and Medicine, the internationally renowned journal of ASLMS.
  • Awards are given for best abstract in each category (qualifications may apply). See below.

Abstract Awards

BEST OVERALL BASIC SCIENCE ABSTRACT AWARD

  • Abstracts from each category are nominated by Section Chairs.
  • Abstracts are reviewed by the Awards Review Committee and final awardee is selected.
  • Winner receives $1,000 honoraria, generously funded by Candela, and recognition.

DR. RICHARD E. FITZPATRICK CLINICAL RESEARCH AND INNOVATIONS (BEST OVERALL CLINICAL) ABSTRACT AWARD

  • Abstracts from each category are nominated by Section Chairs.
  • Abstracts are reviewed by the Awards Review Committee and final awardee is selected.
  • Winner receives $1,000 honoraria, generously funded through the Fitzpatrick Foundation, and recognition. 

OUTSTANDING EARLY CAREER ABSTRACT AWARDS

  • Abstracts are nominated by Early Career Session Section Chair(s).
  • Winner receives $150 honoraria and recognition.

WOMEN IN ENERGY-BASED DEVICES EARLY CAREER DEVELOPMENT AWARD

  • This award is given in recognition of a high-quality abstract study by an Early Career author and accepted to an abstract session for the current ASLMS Annual Conference.
    • The ASLMS Central Office will notify qualifying, accepted abstract authors when application forms for this award are available and details of the submission process.
  • Either a characteristic of the clinical/research team or an experience during the study must exemplify at least 2 or more goals of the ASLMS Women in Energy-Based Devices Committee:
    • Highlight the excellence of women involved in ASLMS.
    • Address the challenges women may confront in academic and other professional settings
    • Advance networking and training opportunities
    • Educate ASLMS members about gender-bias
    • Encourage young women to choose STEM careers especially those involving energy-based technologies
  • The selected awardee will receive a $500 honoraria and recognition. The award will be given during the Celebration of ASLMS Women in Energy-Based Devices Event.

Presenting Author Educational Scholarships

Up to $1,250 (USD) for qualifying applicants. Please note that scholarships are only available for initial abstract submissions. 

Educational scholarships are available for select student, resident or fellow abstract presenting authors and Nursing/Allied Health presenting authors. View the requirements by selecting an item below. The submission form will be accessible within the abstract submission process.

In order to qualify for an ASLMS Abstract Presenting Author Educational Scholarship or Peggy Nowell, RN Educational Scholarship, you must first submit an abstract. After submitting, you will be able to select the abstract(s) for which you wish to link the scholarship application.
