Wausau, WI ASLMS is pleased to announce the new Lasers in Surgery and Medicine Editor-in-Chief, Bahman Anvari, PhD. Dr. Anvari will begin his term on January 1, 2025.
Bahman Anvari received his BA in Biophysics from University of California, Berkeley, and his PhD in Bioengineering from Texas A&M University. He was a Packard Postdoctoral Fellow at the Beckman Laser Institute and Medical Clinic, University of California Irvine, and later a Research Assistant Professor at Harvey Mudd College. In 1998, he joined the Bioengineering Department at Rice University as an Assistant Professor, where he became an Associate Professor in 2003. In 2006, Dr. Anvari joined the newly established Department of Bioengineering at University of California, Riverside, as a Full Professor. Dr. Anvari’s research is focused on the diagnostic and therapeutic applications of lasers and light-based devices, and the engineering of novel optical micro- and nano-sized materials for photomedicine. He is a co-inventor on several patents related to the cryogenic spray cooling technology for dermatological applications. Dr. Anvari has published over 400 scientific articles, and been continuously funded by research grants from the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, and other agencies. He has been a member of ASLMS since 1998, and is a Fellow of American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE), Biomedical Engineering Society (BMES), National Academy of Inventors (NAI), and The International Society for Optics & Photonics (SPIE). Dr. Anvari is the 2019 recipient of the Caroline & William Mark Memorial Award by the ASLMS. He has previously served as an Associate Editor for Annals of Biomedical Engineering, and an Editorial Board Member for the Journal of Biomedical Optics.
