Clean Slate Tattoo Removal

ASLMS is continuing to expand the reach of our philanthropic efforts. The New Beginnings Radiation Mark Program started in 2014 and expanded to include branding tattoo removal in 2022. Now ASLMS is ready to help members connect with individuals looking for a fresh start in life through pro bono tattoo removal treatment for gang-related tattoos.

The Clean Slate program was started by UC San Diego in 2016 in partnership with the San Diego County Probation Department and the San Diego County Indigent Criminal Defense Grant Fund. This program has graciously extended their resources to ASLMS to distribute to members in hopes that local Clean Slate programs can be offered in your area. Learn more about the Clean Slate program.

While this is not an official ASLMS program, as clinics develop their local Clean Slate programs, they will be added to the ASLMS Clean Slate clinic database.

2024-25 ASLMS President

"Ex-gang members and troubled youth who are trying to assimilate into society have trouble obtaining jobs or even entering the military because their tattoos are associated with social stigmas. By removing tattoos, we can help them jump-start a new life."

To get started:

  • Read the Clean Slate Press Release
  • Download the Clean Slate Checklist
  • Contact your local judicial branch to inquire about local rules and regulations for removing related tattoos and parole officer expectations and clinic parameters. There may also be funding assistance for programs in your area; inquire with local judicial branches for more information.
  • Determine appropriate staffing requirements for your clinic, budget, and clinical hours.
  • Once the clinic is operational, contact ASLMS to be added to the Clean Slate Clinic database. The local clinic operator is responsible for updating ASLMS on the clinic's location and contact information.

*ASLMS relies on the overseeing physician to understand their local laws and ensure that the medical professional is appropriately licensed to perform the procedures.
